Moto G4 Plus Review- Value For Money Smartphone

Motorola launched Moto G4 and Moto G4 plus smartphones in India few days back. This is the first launch by the company after acquired by the Lenovo.

Motorola’s Moto G series smartphones are a serious hit among Indian Smartphone buyers. This was basically due to the better hardware and software capability of the Moto G smartphone.

When Motorola announced Moto G and Moto E smartphones in India, there is less competition in the Indian smartphone market. Moto G smartphones are priced at a budget range that to offering an excellent value for money.


This time around, Indian smartphone market is highly congested with many other brands, most of them are Chinese brands like Lenovo, Xiaomi, LeEco, Oppo, Vivo, Coolpad etc. Let us see the latest offering from Motorola Moto G4 stake up against the other brands in this Price range.


Display and Fingerprint Sensor:

Moto G4 plus comes with 5.5 inch Full HD display with Corning Gorilla Glass protection. It offers great viewing angles with ample amount of colour saturation. Sunlight legibility is pretty impressive with effective brightness. Phone has a rectangular fingerprint scanner below the display, but it’s not a physical button as the ones found on the Meizu M3 Note or Xiaomi Mi 5. Fingerprint sensor is quite accurate recognizing fingerprints 4 out of 5 times.

Moto G4 plus comes with the much needed upgraded camera sensor. It sports 16 MP rear shooter with PDAF(Phase Detection Autofocus). The Front camera also gets a face lift from the previous generation Moto G smartphones. 5 MP front facing camera is good for selfie lovers.


Under the hood, Moto G4 plus smartphone packs in Snapdragon 617 octa core processor coupled with 2GB/3GB RAM. It also has 16GB/32GB of in-built storage with an option of expanded storage capacity of 128GB using a Microsd card.

As for as the connectivity options are concerned, Moto G4 plus packs in  4G LTE (Category 4), Bluetooth 4.1, GLONASS, dual-band Wi-Fi b/g/n, GPS, USB-OTG. The phone gets its juice from the 3000mAH inbuilt battery which can be charged using the 25watts turbo charger that comes bundled with the phone.


Software and Performance:


The main USP of Moto G smartphone series was the frequent android updates by the company. Moto G4 Plus comes with Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow out of the box topped with Motorola’s proprietary Moto Display and Moto Action features.  Moto G4 Plus smartphone gives you an pure android experience which most people love.

 


Moto G4 plus scores 42,229 points in the AnTuTu benchmark (Performance Benchmark) and 17fps (frames per second) in GFXbench (Gaming Benchmark) which is quite good considering its price point.

You can play most of the latest games like Subway surfers, Temple Run etc. without any lags. Phone gets a bit of warm while playing graphics intensive games like Asphalt 8. This is mainly due to the CPU, it doesn’t get too hot to handle.

Regular Apps like Watsapp, facebook etc.works finely, there are no hiccups while switching between apps or playing an 1080p Full HD video. Moto G4 Plus handles 1080p videos with ease, there were no lags or delays.

Verdict:

Moto G4 Plus is a power packed smartphone released by the lenovo owned company after the success of the previous Moto G series smartphones in the country. Priced at INR 13,499 for 2GB RAM/16GB Storage and INR 14,999 for 3GB RAM/32GB Storage, Moto G4 plus offers you great value for money.

Go for it, if you want the latest android software updates and advanced security features like the fingerprint scanner. But there are other smartphones like Honor 6X, Xiaomi Redmi Note 3, LeEco Le Pro 3S and Meizu M3 Note which are also budget smartphones with powerful hardware. These smartphones are also a bit cheaper when compared to Moto G4 Plus.
